  • Malyssa Essex

Malyssa Essex is currently a student at UNLV. She is majoring in Women’s Studies and hopes to one day go into non-profit work and politics.

As a 2010 NEW Leadership alumna, she recognizes the importance of women in leadership, and has been very politically active. She has interned with Barack Obama’s campaign, Shelley Berkley, and most recently with Senator Harry Reid in Washington, DC. She recently campaigned to represent the president at the Democratic National Convention as a delegate on behalf of Planned Parenthood and attended the event.

After experiencing the NEW Leadership program, she interned with Safe House in Las Vegas. Subsequent to the program, she also won a seat as liberal arts senator for CSUN, UNLV’s undergraduate student government.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, eating delicious food, and crafts. Malyssa identifies as a feminist, and is committed to doing her part for social justice and equality through activism, solidarity, and education.
