  • Kristin Guthrie

Kristin Guthrie holds bachelor’s degrees in English and History, is a university and department honors scholar and was an Outstanding Graduate of the December 2010 class.

As an undergraduate historian, she authored a thesis “Nevada’s Political Economy: Economic Crises and Government Action” — to uncover the root of the state’s economic problems, by analyzing its historic successes and failures. Kristin is passionate about social and economic issues – and how they intersect with one another.

She worked for Congresswoman Dina Titus’ District Office as a legislative and constituent services intern for over a year and has since remained very politically active.

Over the past year, she took on the great challenge of making NSHE institutions tobacco free as the research assistant for Tobacco Free UNLV. She has led honor societies and recently co-founded the Student Tobacco Awareness Coalition.

Fascinated by leadership since her participation in the NEWL class of 2010, she has completed oral histories of community leaders including Barbara Buckley and Senator Richard Bryan. Another of her passions is film. Kristin has led film projects for non-profits and government grant funded programs.

Currently, she is a research assistant for UNLV Libraries.

Kristin served as a program assistant for NEW Leadership in 2012 and led the Voices of NEW Leadership project to capture the impact of the program on the personal and professional development of alumnae since its inception – in celebration of the 10 year anniversary.
